Boston Liposuction

Boston liposuction qualfied surgeons use this technique to REFINE the figure, not for overall weight loss. So liposuctions is not some shortcut to becoming thinner without dieting or changing your eating habits.

The amounts of fat removed during a liposuction procedure are actually quite small, and the patient does not lose much weight. People who have already lost most of the weight, but have specific trouble spots that still contain fat, find that liposuction lets the surgeon target these parts of the body specifically and reduce or remove fat from these problem areas.

Areas such as hips, buttock, thighs, knees, arms, chin and neck, stomach and, of course, the infamous "love handles" are typical areas addressed with liposuction. Typically these areas of fat remain even if the person has done vigorous exercise and the surgeon will use liposuction to provide the final touches to the weight loss. Boston liposuction surgeons use instruments that allow them to litterally recontour the patient's body by selecting which areas to remove excess fat from.

During the procedure, the fat beneath the skin is permanently removed with a suction device. Often liposuction is also used on men to reduce the size of male breasts by removing fat from the pectoralis area. Many Boston liposuction surgeons have stated that this procedure is always most successful on patients that have firm, elastic skin and small, concentrated pockets of fat in cellultite areas.

The reason for this is that, to really look good, the skin must contract around the new contours of the body. Skin is less elastic on older patients, so this may mean that they are not good candidates for liposuction.

Most patients find that, after the surgery, they can return to their normal routine in a couple weeks, but it may be more if the treated area is larger. To fully recover from all the effects of the surgery will take a few months. Surgeons often have their patients wear a compression garment for the first couple weeks after having the procedure.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposculpture Surgery

A newer procedure is called Ultrasound-assisted Liposculpture, abbreviated "UAL". In this variant on normal liposuction, a metal probe is used which carries a high frequency ultrasonic sound. This caused the fat cells around the probe to "liquefy" so they can then be easily removed.

UAL probes do not produce nearly as much bleeding or tissue damage, so the surgeon can actually remove much more fat during the procedure. UAL also has the advantage of leaving less bruising on the patient. UAL has another advantage over traditional liposuction in that it is much less likely that there will be irregularities in the contour of the treated area.

The sound emitting UAL probe cannot be used on all areas of the body and you should check with your surgeon to find if it can be used in your procedure. The UAL technique can also be more expensive, since the equipment costs significantly more than the traditional type. Early UAL machines of the first two generations have been linked to cases of skin damage caused by overly powerful sound waves, but third and later generations do not have this problem.

Often, Boston liposuction surgeons will employ both UAL and traditional equipment in a surgery, depending on the patient and where the treatment area is, so you may find this true in your area also.
